The Super Falcons head into the encounter with a 2-0 advantage from the first leg, having secured goals through defender Michelle Alozie and Kanu.

The result puts Nigeria in a strong position to advance, but the team is determined to finish the tie with another convincing performance.

Speaking ahead of the match, Kanu said representing Nigeria at the Olympics would be a significant achievement for her, while emphasising that the team’s ambitions extend beyond qualification.

“Playing on a big stage like the Olympics is huge for me personally,” Kanu said.

“We have a goal not just to make it to the Olympics, but also to look at the trophy. We have a good team, we’ve been preparing and we’ve been doing well.

“We want to win, like the coach said, and score as many goals as possible,” she told the media.

Nigeria will look to make the most of their advantage when the return leg kicks off at 6pm Nigerian time.

With a two-goal cushion, the Super Falcons will aim to maintain their defensive discipline while creating opportunities to extend their lead against the Comoros side.

A second victory would further strengthen the team’s confidence as it pursues a place at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, United States.

The Super Falcons are among Africa’s most successful women’s national teams, having won the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations 10 times. They will hope to translate that experience into a successful Olympic qualifying campaign.

The outcome of the two-legged tie will determine which team advances to the third qualifying round in March 2027.

The aggregate winner will face Morocco in the next stage, bringing Nigeria one step closer to its ambition of qualifying for the 2028 Olympic football tournament.
