TTP Digital Truck Call-Up System modernises Nigerian ports with N4bn investment, easing congestion and improving truck logistics.

Truck Transit Park Limited (TTP) announced on Thursday that it has invested between N3.8 billion and N4.2 billion in establishing a digital Electronic Call-Up System aimed at modernising truck operations at Nigeria’s major seaports.

Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Mr Jama Onwubuariri, made the disclosure while addressing journalists at a leadership session themed, ‘From Gridlock to Growth: Re-imagining Ports Logistics in Nigeria’.

He added that the e-tag system, distributed free to truckers, cost approximately N200 million to implement.

“The e-tag solution is tamper-proof and assigns a permanent digital identity to each truck. If removed, the vehicle will no longer function within the system,” Onwubuariri explained.

The platform has scheduled 3.38 million truck movements over the past four years and nine months, tackling chronic congestion at Lagos Ports.

Onwubuariri noted that the porous vehicle plate registration system in Nigeria has historically enabled truckers to duplicate or falsify plates, a challenge now addressed by the tamper-proof e-tags.

He also highlighted the ETO Interchange Transaction Number, a mechanism that mandates terminal operators to service only the trucks summoned, preventing unauthorised access and enhancing cargo evacuation efficiency.

Government officials underscored the wider significance of the initiative Commissioner for the Ministry of Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, represented by Director of Transport Operations, Olasunkanmi Ojowuro, said, “With innovative ideas, strategic partnerships, and investment in technology, Nigeria’s ports can transform from congestion points into thriving hubs of commerce.”

The Chairman of the Nigerian Ports Consultative Council, Mr Bolaji Sunmola, represented by Vice Chairperson Jean-Chaizor Anishere SAN, added that fragmented agency operations, manual processes, and excessive cargo checks have historically increased costs and weakened Nigeria’s competitiveness in the global market.

Remy Ogungbemi, National President of the Association of Maritime Truck Owners, praised the Eto system, emphasising that opposition comes mainly from those who benefited from the previous chaotic port system.

The Electronic Call-Up System, also known as Eto, forms part of the Nigerian Ports Authority’s broader modernisation and automation agenda, designed to control port entry, reduce unauthorised access, and improve operational efficiency across the nation’s seaports.
