Lagos Police arrest two suspects for posing as Lagos State Ambulance Services (LASAMBUS) officials and extorting money from accident victims for free pre-hospital care

Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command’s Rapid Response Squad (RRS) have apprehended two suspects, Nuche Joseph, 29, and Lawal Rofiat, 29, for allegedly impersonating officials of the Lagos State Ambulance Services (LASAMBUS) and exploiting members of the public. The arrest occurred on April 29, 2025, while the suspects were posing as LASAMBUS officials.

According to a statement released by the RRS, the suspects were operating in conjunction with BrainGrace Ambulance service and had been fraudulently charging accident victims for pre-hospital care, a service provided free of charge by the Lagos State Government.

The fraudulent activities of the suspects came to light after relatives of an accident victim exposed their exploitation on social media. The relatives reported being forced to pay N150,000 to BrainGrace Ambulance for pre-hospital care, tragically, the victim died before reaching the hospital.

Realizing that LASAMBUS provides this service free of charge, the bereaved family took to social media to report the alleged fraud, initially but mistakenly identifying the perpetrators as LASAMBUS officials.

The RRS clarified that the suspects were impersonating LASAMBUS and confirmed their arrest. “The two suspects have made confessional statement to the police and have been charged to court,” the RRS statement concluded.

This arrest serves as a warning to individuals attempting to exploit the public by impersonating essential service providers in Lagos State.

The police are committed to ensuring that services meant to be free for citizens remain so and that those who attempt to defraud vulnerable individuals are brought to justice.
