Lawrence Ukaegbu, assistant coach of Enyimba International, praised his players for their growing consistency after the nine-time Nigeria Premier Football League champions defeated 10-man Plateau United 2-0 at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba on Sunday, 4 October 2026.

The victory gave Enyimba a second consecutive league win and extended the Aba club’s unbeaten run to three matches, providing a timely boost to their campaign after a difficult opening spell.

Ifeanyi Ihemekwele broke the deadlock shortly before the half-hour mark, giving the hosts the advantage after a period of sustained pressure.

Enyimba continued to control the contest after taking the lead, while Plateau United struggled to create a sustained response.

Richard Ezinwa eventually doubled the advantage in the 66th minute, giving the home side a comfortable cushion and effectively settling the contest.

Plateau United’s task became even more difficult after being reduced to 10 men, allowing Enyimba to manage the closing stages with greater confidence.

For Ukaegbu, the result was evidence that Enyimba are beginning to rediscover the form expected of a club with such a distinguished history in Nigerian football.

“We have returned to our best form, and I can assure you of this. Our success has been built on consistency and the players’ commitment to working as one unit,” Ukaegbu told journalists after the match.

He attributed the improvement to the players’ growing understanding of their responsibilities and the collective approach within the squad.

“The players have now developed a comprehensive understanding of the expectations we have established for them. This comprehension accounts for the remarkable resurgence you have observed,” he added.

The result is particularly significant for Enyimba after a difficult start to the campaign left the Aba giants battling near the bottom of the table.

The latest run of three unbeaten matches, including consecutive victories, has lifted the club out of the relegation zone and restored some optimism around the team.

Enyimba will now turn their attention to their next league assignment away from home.

The People’s Elephant will travel to face Katsina United, with the coaching staff hoping the improved form can continue on the road.

For a side with nine NPFL titles, the immediate objective will be to build on the recent momentum and move further away from danger.

Sunday’s victory provided a strong foundation, but Ukaegbu and his players will know that consistency remains essential if Enyimba are to turn their encouraging revival into a sustained recovery.
