University of Glasgow launches African Excellence Scholarship for postgraduate students, covering full tuition for high-achieving African applicants

The University of Glasgow has unveiled the African Excellence Award, a scholarship programme designed to support outstanding students from across Africa seeking postgraduate studies in the United Kingdom.

The scholarship will cover full tuition fees for selected candidates admitted into eligible master’s programmes for the 2026/2027 academic session.

Up to 16 scholarships will be awarded to high-achieving African students, enabling them to advance academically while gaining the knowledge and skills required to make meaningful contributions to their communities.

The award is open to students with academic performance equivalent to a UK First-Class Honours degree who have applied for a postgraduate taught master’s programme beginning in September 2026.

Applicants must hold a passport from an eligible African country, be domiciled in Africa, and possess international fee status.

While students may apply for the scholarship before receiving an admission offer, the University of Glasgow requires a formal offer of admission before inviting candidates for an interview.

Recipients must also meet UK visa financial requirements, as the award covers tuition fees but not living costs or visa-related expenses.

The scholarship exclusively targets postgraduate taught master’s programmes.

Postgraduate diplomas and certificate courses are not eligible.

Applications will close at 23:59 (UK time) on March 31, 2026, with shortlisted candidates notified by May 8, 2026.

In a statement, the university said the initiative aims to “support high-achieving students from across Africa in their journey to become future world changers.”

Founded in 1451, the University of Glasgow is one of the United Kingdom’s oldest institutions of higher learning and a member of the Russell Group, known for research excellence and high academic standards.

The university currently hosts over 30,000 students from more than 140 countries.

Eligible applicants include students from Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, South Africa, Egypt, Morocco, Algeria, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe, among other African nations.
