Waidi Shu’aibu unveils renovated Kaduna flats, delivering 90 family homes for soldiers at Ribadu Cantonment to boost welfare

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shu’aibu, on Friday inaugurated three renovated blocks of family flats for soldiers at the Ribadu Cantonment in Kaduna, delivering 90 refurbished homes to military personnel and their families.

The project, completed within three months, comprises three blocks of 30 flats each. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the initiative forms part of the Nigerian Army’s broader drive to strengthen welfare and improve living conditions for troops.

Represented at the ceremony by the General Officer Commanding 1 Division, Nigerian Army, and Commander, Sector 1, Operation Fansan Yamma, Maj.-Gen. Abubakar Wase, Waidi Shu’aibu said the renovation aligned with the Army’s firm commitment to personnel welfare.

Waidi Shu’aibu explained that the buildings had previously been occupied but had fallen into severe disrepair, prompting the relocation of residents to enable comprehensive refurbishment.

Waidi Shu’aibu said funds were approved for the intervention as part of a strategic vision to prioritise soldiers’ welfare and enhance accommodation standards across formations nationwide.

The Army Chief noted that the Kaduna project was one of several renovation works underway, adding that new accommodation blocks were also being constructed to address housing shortages within the service.

Waidi Shu’aibu urged beneficiaries to maintain the facilities to ensure their long-term sustainability.

Speaking on behalf of residents of Block 20, Mrs Fumilayo Yonde commended the Army leadership for what she described as a transformative intervention.

Mrs Yonde recalled that the block’s previous condition was deplorable, with occupants living in fear of falling debris from the ageing structure.

Mrs Yonde pledged that residents would safeguard the renovated flats and prayed for continued success for the Army leadership.
