Lere Olayinka dismisses claims that Nyesom Wike plans to run against President Tinubu in 2027, calling the reports “blatant lies.”

Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, Mr. Lere Olayinka, has dismissed as false and baseless reports that the minister is being pushed to contest against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

In a statement on Thursday, Olayinka described the claim as a blatant lie fabricated by idle minds with no meaningful contribution to national development.

He condemned an online platform he said was notorious for spreading misinformation, which had alleged that some Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders met recently to “push Wike” into joining the presidential race.

“As far as Wike is concerned, it is President Bola Ahmed Tinubu till 2031,” Olayinka declared, stressing that the rumour lacked any basis.

He noted that Wike, known for his forthrightness, has always been transparent in his political dealings.

“Wike does not function in hiding. He does what he says and says what he does,” he said.

Olayinka reiterated that the FCT Minister’s position regarding the 2027 election is clear and unwavering — total support for President Tinubu’s leadership.

He clarified that the only political meeting held on August 20, 2025, involved PDP stakeholders from Southern Nigeria, and its purpose was to prepare for another meeting in Lagos the following day to finalise zoning arrangements for southern party positions.

According to him, the outcomes of that meeting were publicly released in a press statement signed by several PDP leaders, including Austin Nwachukwu, Abraham Amah, Barr. Venatuis Ikem, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Akpan, Aaron Chukwuemeka, Hon. Chidiebere Egwu Goodluck, and Hon. O. K. Chinda, among others.

Olayinka therefore urged the public to disregard the fabricated reports, describing them as cheap political propaganda designed to sow discord.
