Zamfara bandits attack Yarkatsinan Laka kills health worker and five others as police neutralise 11 attackers in violent clash

A Community Health Officer and five other persons have been killed in a brutal bandit attack on Yarkatsinan Laka community in Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State, while a primary health centre in the area was also set ablaze.

Zamfara bandits attack Yarkatsinan Laka reportedly occurred when armed bandits, numbering over 50 motorcycles and carrying sophisticated weapons, invaded the community in large numbers, according to the state police command.

Spokesperson of the Zamfara State Police Command, DSP Yazid Abubakar, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Thursday, noting that police operatives responded swiftly to the invasion.

He explained that a Police Strike Unit engaged the attackers in a gun duel, resulting in the neutralisation of 11 suspected bandits, while several others escaped with gunshot injuries.

During the violent exchange, two police officers and three civilians were also killed, while one officer sustained injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment.

Bandits from zamfara attacked Yarkatsinan Laka also left the local health facility destroyed after attackers reportedly set the primary health centre on fire during the raid.

Authorities say normalcy has since been restored in the affected community, as security operations continue to track fleeing suspects and prevent further attacks.
