Natalie Okri human hair claims

British singer Natalie Okri says some human hair wigs come from spiritual sacrifices, warning black women about unknowingly wearing bad luck

British singer Natalie Okri has sparked controversy by claiming that some human hair wigs are spiritual sacrifices to deities and unknown gods.

In a video shared on her Instagram page, Okri explained that her decision to stop wearing wigs was influenced by the origins of some human hair used in the global beauty industry.

She alleged that in parts of Asia, women donate their hair at temples as a form of purification, shedding bad luck, poverty, and negative energy.

“A lot of women in some countries like Asia go to the temple to sacrifice their hair to their god, believing that their gods will purify and cleanse them,” she said.

“They give their hair as a form of getting rid of bad luck, poverty, and every other thing stressing them — and they start life anew.”

Okri claimed that this sacrificed hair is often collected and sold to large vendors, eventually making its way to the European and global markets through platforms like Ali Baba and Ali Express.

“We black women go to those websites to buy these hairs at hundreds of pounds, not knowing we are wearing someone’s bad luck on our heads,” she warned.

As a Christian, Okri expressed her concern that wearing hair from these spiritual sacrifices conflicts with her beliefs.

Okri’s statements have ignited discussions about the ethics and spirituality behind the human hair industry.

While some agree with her perspective, others argue that the practice of hair donation often serves cultural and economic purposes without spiritual implications.
