In a personal letter addressed through the Executive Secretary of GoHealth and the Chief Executive of Human Capital Managers Nigeria Ltd, Gates expressed deep admiration for Gombe’s problem-solving mindset, technical innovation, and results-oriented strategy.

“I was impressed by Gombe’s problem-solving mindset and commitment to achieving results,” Gates wrote after a high-level policy meeting in Abuja.

Gates particularly praised the Human Resources for Health (HRH) biometric attendance platform—a homegrown digital tool that tracks health staff attendance in real-time and enhances data-driven decisions in resource allocation.

“The HRH biometric attendance platform is a compelling example of a state-led initiative to improve data availability for decision-making to optimise your resources,” Gates remarked.

The platform enables more efficient use of public health resources, streamlining management, boosting transparency, and increasing accountability in the health sector workforce.

Gates emphasized that Gombe’s achievements reflect visionary governance, where stakeholder engagement, transparency, and smart planning lead to tangible, measurable improvements in public service delivery.

According to Ismaila Misilli, Director-General of Press Affairs, the Gates Foundation’s commendation validates Gombe’s commitment to achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) through sustainable systems.

“Through GoHealth and other relevant agencies, the Gombe State Government remains resolute in its collaboration with both local and international stakeholders to expand and sustain progress in the health sector,” Misilli said.
