Ajayi Crowther University fire was swiftly contained with no casualties. Management reassures public as equipment remains intact

The Ajayi Crowther University fire incident that occurred on Monday has been contained without casualties, restoring calm across the Oyo State institution.

According to reports, the fire originated from an electrical surge linked to the studio’s air-conditioning system. Flames quickly spread through the radio studio, but firefighters responded swiftly to halt further damage.

Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Maroof Akinwande, confirmed that the blaze was already engulfing the studio when officers led by PFS 11 Makinde arrived. He noted that quick intervention stopped the fire from spreading to other facilities.

“No casualty was recorded, and property worth millions of naira was saved,” Akinwande said, while advising the public to maintain fire extinguishers to tackle small fires before they escalate.

University spokesperson, Olufemi Atoyebi, clarified that contrary to widespread reports, the fire did not destroy major equipment.

“The radio station is a training studio, not a commercial one. Only a few wires were affected, and we have already fixed everything. We are almost back on air,” Atoyebi reassured.

He further stressed that the fire posed no danger to lives or property within residential areas, as students were away on holiday.

The swift containment of the Ajayi Crowther University fire brings relief after a similar blaze hit Fresh FM’s Ibadan studio last month.
