Anambra voter register 2025 rises to 2.8m as INEC clears duplicates, approves transfers, and assures voters of PVC readiness before Nov 8 poll

The Anambra voter register 2025 has increased to 2,802,790 following the conclusion of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) confirmed on Thursday.

National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, disclosed this in a statement, noting that the exercise took place across the 326 wards of the state between July 8 and 20, 2025.

INEC said 168,187 citizens applied as new voters during the exercise. However, after subjecting the data to its Automated Biometric Identification System, 27,817 duplicate or multiple registrations were removed, leaving 140,370 valid new registrants.

Additionally, the commission approved 5,983 transfer applications into the state, bringing the total number of additional voters to 146,353.

“Before this exercise, Anambra State had 2,656,437 registered voters. With the additions, the register has now increased to 2,802,790,” Olumekun stated.

A breakdown showed Idemili North leading with 246,318 voters (8.79%), followed by Awka South with 216,611 (7.73%) and Ogbaru with 188,016 (6.71%). Dunokofia and Anambra West had the lowest figures with 83,580 (2.98%) and 71,332 (2.55%), respectively.

Olumekun assured voters that their Permanent Voter Cards — whether new, transferred, or replacements — would be available for collection ahead of the November 8, 2025 governorship election.

The Anambra election is one of several off-cycle polls scheduled after court-ordered adjustments to Nigeria’s electoral calendar. Sixteen political parties met INEC’s May 12 submission deadline and will field candidates in the race.
