LagRide electric vehicles Lagos expansion sees 100 EVs added to fleet, boosting clean, reliable and affordable transport across the city

The announcement was made on Friday by LagRide’s Executive Director, Adeniyi Saliu, during a press briefing at the company’s Ikeja headquarters.

The move, he said, aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s transportation agenda to create a cleaner, smarter, and more technology-driven transit system for Africa’s largest city.

According to Saliu, the EVs are designed for urban performance, offering ranges of more than 333 kilometres per charge and rapid recharge capability within 30 minutes.

With charging stations already installed across Lagos, the platform is optimising routing and scheduling to minimise downtime.

“The cost-efficiency of EVs ensures drivers take home more earnings, while residents enjoy quieter, zero-emissions rides that support a healthier environment,” Saliu noted.

He added that the upgrade goes beyond simply expanding the fleet. “We are building an ecosystem that delivers reliable transport, cleaner air, and thousands of dignified jobs in driving, maintenance, and tech-enabled services.”

A rigorous maintenance model underpins the expansion, with preventive servicing, data-driven diagnostics, and quality replacement parts employed to ensure vehicle longevity and reliability.

LagRide’s Public Relations and Communications Lead, Ifeanyi Abraham, linked the initiative to global benchmarks, citing Dubai’s government-backed e-taxis as a model of safety and efficiency.

“Lagos is moving boldly in that direction,” he said, stressing that electric mobility would position the city among global leaders in smart and sustainable transport.

In a related plan, LagRide is preparing to onboard 10,000 additional drivers through a bank-supported leasing scheme ahead of the festive season, when travel demand typically peaks.

Industry analysts say the twin strategy of scaling driver capacity and deploying EVs highlights the platform’s commitment to sustainability and scalability.
