Wale Tinubu wins Lifetime Achievement Award at Africa Energy Week 2025 for leading Oando’s transformation and championing Africa’s energy sovereignty

Wale Tinubu Lifetime Achievement recognition was announced on Wednesday as the Group Chief Executive of Oando Plc received the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award at Africa Energy Week 2025 (AEW), in honour of his enduring contributions to Africa’s energy landscape.

Presented annually by the Africa Energy Chamber, the award celebrates industry leaders whose careers have demonstrated vision, resilience, and a profound impact on the continent’s energy future.

Tinubu joins a distinguished list of past recipients including Professor Benedict Oramah, President of Afreximbank, and former presidents of Senegal and Namibia.

In a statement, the Chamber described Tinubu’s leadership as “bold and transformative,” citing his role in navigating Oando through market shifts and in “championing the role of indigenous companies in achieving Africa’s energy sovereignty.”

Tinubu, a well-known advocate for African-led development, has led Oando from its humble origins as a local petroleum marketer to a pan-African integrated energy group with interests spanning exploration and production, power, and renewables.

“A firm believer that anyone can achieve greatness with vision, determination, and the right team, Tinubu’s leadership has made Oando not just a business success but a symbol of African ambition and ingenuity,” the company said in a statement.

The award is regarded as a benchmark of excellence at AEW, reserved for individuals whose careers — typically spanning decades — have helped shape the future of energy in Africa.

Tinubu’s recognition underscores his pivotal role in creating homegrown solutions in a historically foreign-dominated industry.

Earlier in 2025, Oando’s upstream subsidiary, Oando Energy Resources, secured operatorship of Block KON 13 in Angola’s Kwanza Onshore Basin.

The block, with an estimated prospective resource potential of 770 to 1,100 million barrels, positions Oando as a key player in one of sub-Saharan Africa’s most promising oil plays.

Tinubu has received multiple honours for his work in business, social enterprise, and philanthropy.

His latest accolade reinforces his reputation as one of Africa’s most influential energy executives.
