Governor Uba Sani says his inclusive and fair leadership style has drawn PDP lawmakers to APC, turning Southern Kaduna into a ruling party stronghold

Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani says his inclusive, fair and development-driven leadership has attracted massive defections from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) across the state.

Speaking at a mega rally held at the Kafanchan Township Stadium on Saturday, the Governor welcomed Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, who represents Southern Kaduna Senatorial District, alongside Hon. Dan Amos, Hon. Ali Kalat, and Hon. Yusuf Mugu, and thousands of their supporters who defected from PDP to APC.

Governor Sani said the wave of defections demonstrates growing confidence in his administration’s inclusive approach and infrastructural achievements.

“When we came on board, we made it clear that we took a solemn oath to be fair to all, to run an inclusive government, and to ensure we treat everyone equitably, irrespective of political, religious or ethnic affiliations,” the Governor stated.

He recalled that as of May 29, 2023, the opposition held 12 seats in the House of Representatives from Kaduna while the APC had only four.

“But in the last two and half years, 10 of those lawmakers have decamped to APC,” he said. “That is a sign that we are running an inclusive government.”

Governor Sani noted that Southern Kaduna, once a traditional PDP enclave since 1999, had now transformed into an APC stronghold, with all elected representatives from the area now in the ruling party.

The Governor listed several infrastructure projects under his administration, including the 22-kilometre Madauchi–Kafanchan asphalt road, nearing completion; a 24-kilometre Gwantu–Godogodo–Jema’a–Sanga road, now 70% completed; and 28 kilometres of road linking Kauru and Kubau local governments, which he said would soon be commissioned.

He also cited major improvements in township roads, healthcare, agriculture, and education across the 23 local government areas, noting that “no local government in Kaduna is left behind.”

Governor Sani thanked President Bola Tinubu for approving the Federal University of Applied Sciences in Kachia and revealed that the state was constructing an access road linking the new university to the main town.

Representing the President, Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, said Southern Kaduna’s defection to APC showed that “the region has woken up to the reality of the President’s reforms.”

“The reforms have touched everyone positively, not just in Southern Kaduna but across Nigeria. The best is yet to come,” he said, commending Governor Sani for his achievements in security and development.

Also speaking, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon Tajudeen Abbas, described Senator Katung and Rep Amos’s defection as “a political earthquake.”

“Senator Katung is a man of integrity and intellect. Hon. Amos, as Chairman of House Services, showed rare discipline and leadership. Their move to APC is a testament to Governor Uba Sani’s inclusive leadership and President Tinubu’s transformative governance,” Abbas said.

With the latest defections, Governor Uba Sani declared that Kaduna State is now one united family under the canopy of the APC, calling on others yet to join to “cross over and be part of the progress.”
