Plateau Governor Caleb Mutfwang presents a ₦914bn “Budget of Consolidation and Sustainability 2.0” for 2026, focusing on people-oriented development

Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has presented a ₦914.86 billion budget for the 2026 fiscal year to the State House of Assembly, promising a continued focus on people-centred projects and sustainable development.

The budget, titled “Budget of Consolidation and Sustainability 2.0”, comprises ₦341 billion (37.32%) for recurrent expenditure and ₦573 billion (62.68%) for capital projects.

“This budget is designed to serve the people of Plateau State sincerely and without compromise,”
Mutfwang said while addressing lawmakers on Wednesday in Jos.

He explained that revenue would be sourced from Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), FAAC allocations, aids and grants, and the Capital Development Fund (CDF).

Mutfwang highlighted agriculture, rural development, mining, trade, investment, tourism, health, education, and infrastructure as key areas of focus for 2026.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to a strategic three-pillar policy built on:

1. Peace, security, and good governance;
2. Sustainable economic rebirth; and
3. Physical infrastructure development.

“The 2026 budget builds on our progress and reflects our determination to consolidate achievements while ensuring fiscal responsibility,” the governor added.

The budget represents an increase of over ₦306 billion compared to the ₦471 billion 2025 budget. Key sectoral allocations include:

• Administration: ₦125 billion
• Economic sector: ₦232 billion
• Law and Justice: ₦21 billion
• Social services: ₦119 billion

Speaker Daniel Naalong assured the governor of the Assembly’s commitment to the speedy passage of the appropriation bill to allow early implementation.

Mutfwang thanked lawmakers for their support and collaboration, noting that legislative-executive harmony had been crucial in maintaining stability and advancing Plateau’s development agenda.
