The 2025/2026 NWFL Premiership began with dramatic flair across Nigeria on Wednesday as clubs delivered late winners, spirited comebacks and tightly contested encounters at multiple venues nationwide.

In Yenagoa, Bayelsa Queens secured a powerful statement victory by defeating Edo Queens 3–2 in a gripping derby settled by a stoppage-time penalty.

Rebecca Adegbemile gave Edo Queens the lead in the 23rd minute, but the hosts overturned the deficit through Kindness Ifeanyi and Janet Akekoromowei shortly before and after halftime.

Edo Queens drew level when Robiat Taofeeq struck five minutes from time, only for Blessing Illvieda to convert a 90+7 minute penalty to seal an emotional win.

Heartland Queens also mounted a determined comeback at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri, recovering from an early setback to beat Ekiti Queens 2–1.

Chizoba Johnson restored parity from the spot in the 13th minute before a composed second-half finish completed the turnaround.

In Lagos, Dannaz Ladies edged Osun Babes 3–2 after a breathless finish, with Nofisat Ayegbami scoring the decisive goal deep into added time to ignite jubilant scenes.

Nasarawa Amazons displayed strength in Lafia, defeating Delta Queens 2–1.

Delta had taken the lead through Nora Davies after four minutes, but Imoh Jones equalised before Hembanfan Ayatse fired home a powerful effort moments before halftime.

Adamawa Queens claimed a confident 2–0 victory over Pacesetter Queens in Makwada, with Ifeoma Damian and Mary Sunday finding the net in each half.

The only away triumph of the opening round came in Akure, where FC Robo Queens edged Sunshine Queens 1–0 thanks to a composed finish from Marvellous Oladunni.

Three fixtures ended level: Confluence Queens drew 2–2 with Abia Angels, while Naija Ratels and Ibom Angels, as well as Ahudiyannem Queens and Remo Stars Ladies, played out goalless encounters.
