Davido Super Eagles AFCON bet draws attention as the singer stakes $25,000 on Nigeria’s opening match against Tanzania

Afrobeat superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has ignited public debate after placing a $25,000 wager on Nigeria’s opening Group C match against Tanzania at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

The award-winning singer shared a screenshot of his betting slip on his verified X account on Sunday, urging support for the Super Eagles with the message, “Let’s get this W Nigeria.”

The betting slip, placed on the Stake platform, predicts that both teams will score in the encounter, with a potential payout of $96,564, underscoring the high stakes attached to the wager.

Davido has a history of placing headline-grabbing bets on Nigeria’s national team.

Ahead of the Super Eagles’ 2026 FIFA World Cup play-off against Gabon, he staked $10,000 on a Nigerian win with both teams to score, a prediction that ultimately failed when Nigeria lost the match.

Despite that setback, the singer’s confidence in the Super Eagles has remained undiminished, reflecting his long-standing passion for football and vocal support for the national side.

The latest bet has, however, drawn mixed reactions online, with some fans applauding the bold show of faith while others jokingly questioned his loyalty, given his previous unsuccessful wager.

As a brand ambassador for Stake, some observers have described the move as a calculated promotional gesture, while critics argue it blurs the line between national support and commercial interest.

Nigeria will face Tanzania’s Taifa Stars at the Complexe Sportif de Fès in Morocco on Tuesday, December 23, as the Super Eagles begin their quest for a fourth AFCON title.

The three-time African champions, led by Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman, are favourites in Group C, which also includes Tunisia and Uganda.

Although Tanzania have never beaten Nigeria in a competitive fixture and trail far behind in FIFA rankings, recent disappointment over Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the 2026 World Cup has injected caution into expectations surrounding the team’s AFCON campaign.
