Four South African traffic police officers have been remanded by the Klerksdorp Magistrates’ Court for the killing of Nigerian motorist Osinakachukwu Onu, with bail denied as investigations continue

A South African court has remanded four National Traffic Police officers accused of killing Nigerian motorist Osinakachukwu Onu.

The Klerksdorp Magistrates’ Court denied bail to the officers, according to a report by Independent Online.

The accused officers are Inspector Rudolph Foromo (29), Inspector Smanga Dladla (31), Inspector Colani Senzo Dlamini (34), and Inspector Vusumuzi Justice Simelane (36). Onu, who was reportedly in South Africa legally, was allegedly chased by the officers while they conducted a traffic operation.

Following the shooting, the officers reportedly fled the scene but were later tracked down and arrested by Klerksdorp detectives on charges of murder and defeating the ends of justice.

Police said the suspects’ official firearms were seized for forensic ballistic analysis.

North West Acting Provincial Commissioner Major General Ryno Naidoo commended the swift response by investigators and thanked members of the public who provided information leading to the arrests.

This incident adds to a growing list of Nigerians being killed in South Africa.
