NDLEA arrests suspected drug trafficker Shodunke Simbiat in Lagos, recovering 23.5kg of cocaine worth N5bn. The arrest is part of ongoing operations targeting trans-border drug syndicates

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested suspected drug trafficker Shodunke Simbiat at her Lagos residence, recovering cocaine valued at approximately N5 billion.

NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi stated that the arrest followed months of intelligence gathering on a trans-border drug trafficking organisation.

A search of Simbiat’s home on Onasanya Street, Surulere, revealed 23.5 kilograms of cocaine concealed in her children’s room. The suspect admitted ownership of the drug consignment.

This seizure adds to a previous operation at the couple’s Agbara, Ogun State residence, where 57.5 kilograms of cocaine were recovered, following the arrest of Bolanle Lookman Dauda and Olayinka Toheebat Dauda in May 2024.

Babafemi further reported multiple other arrests across Nigeria, including:

Nwanwene Robinson Destiny, caught at MMIA Lagos with 1,020 pills of Tramadol and Tapentadol destined for Italy.

Leocardi Josu, a Beninese national, attempting to smuggle 3,400 Tramadol tablets at Seme border.

Abdullahi Adamu with 28.4 kg of skunk cannabis on the Okene/Lokoja highway.

Ogunlade Kazeem and Adeleke Ismail, seized with 185.4 kg of skunk in Ibadan.

Charles James, arrested in Osun State with 405 kg of skunk cannabis.

Jamilu Zakari, apprehended along the Abuja–Kaduna highway with nearly 15,000 Tramadol pills.

NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) commended operatives for their diligence, urging continued vigilance during the festive season to combat drug trafficking and distribution.
