Liverpool confirm Alexander Isak has undergone surgery on a fractured fibula and will miss months of action

Liverpool have confirmed that forward Alexander Isak has undergone surgery after fracturing his left leg.

According to BBC Sport on Tuesday, the club said the Sweden international “successfully underwent surgery” on an ankle injury that included a fractured fibula.

Liverpool did not give a detailed recovery timeline but expect the 26-year-old to be sidelined for several months.

Isak sustained the injury during Saturday’s match against Tottenham Hotspur.

He came off the bench and scored for Arne Slot’s side before being injured moments later.

The striker was hurt following a challenge from Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven just after striking the shot for his goal.

Isak was visibly in pain and could not continue, requiring assistance from medical staff to leave the pitch.

The injury represents a major setback for Liverpool and the player, who joined the club in the summer for a Premier League record £125 million.

Since arriving from Newcastle United in September, Isak has scored three goals in 16 appearances across all competitions.

The setback adds to a difficult period for the striker.

Over the summer, Isak missed Newcastle’s pre-season tour of Asia due to what the club described as a minor thigh injury, amid uncertainty over his future.

He later trained alone at former club Real Sociedad before completing his move to Liverpool on deadline day.
