Senator Titus Zam says the Idoma can produce a Benue governor if the dominant Tiv elite agree, highlighting power dynamics in the state’s politics

Senator Titus Zam, representing Benue North-West Senatorial District, has stated that the Idoma ethnic group can produce a governor in Benue State, provided the dominant Tiv elite are willing to concede power.

Senator Zam explained that the Idomas’ lack of governorship stems from Nigeria’s liberal representative democracy, which advantages majority groups.

It is true that the Tiv people, who constitute 75% of Benue State’s population, have dominated the political space.

Unless there is a conscious elite consensus to concede power to the Idomas, it is impossible for other ethnic groups to participate fully in the state’s leadership, he said.
