US condemns Kwara massacre that killed over 200 civilians, welcoming President Tinubu’s security deployment and aid directives

The United States Mission in Nigeria has condemned the deadly attacks that claimed the lives of over 200 civilians in Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area, Kwara State.

The attacks, carried out by armed gunmen on Tuesday night, involved indiscriminate shooting of residents and the burning of homes.

The death toll reached 200 by Thursday night, with several more still unaccounted for.

In a statement via its official X handle, the US Mission described the killings as “horrific” and extended its condolences to the families of the victims.

The statement welcomed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive to deploy security forces to protect affected villages and provide aid.

“We express our deepest condolences to the families of those affected by this senseless violence,” the US Mission wrote.

“We welcome President Tinubu’s order to deploy security forces to protect villages in the area and his directive to federal and state officials to provide aid to the community and bring the perpetrators of this atrocity to justice.”

Authorities in Kwara State have confirmed that security agencies are conducting investigations to apprehend the attackers and prevent further incidents.
