NDLEA global cooperation reinforced as Chairman Buba Marwa highlights cross-border training and intelligence-driven strategies against organised crime

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to international collaboration in combating illicit drugs and transnational organised crime.

Agency Chairman, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa, made the statement following his address at the United States Drug Enforcement Administration Training Academy in Quantico, Virginia, during the graduation of NDLEA officers.

Marwa called for a reinforced global offensive against organised crime, stressing that the growing sophistication of criminal networks demands stronger law enforcement cooperation across borders.

He described the graduation as significant, honouring officers who paid the ultimate sacrifice in service.

Highlighting the course motto, “Different nations, shared duty, one fight,” he said it reflected collective resolve against transnational criminal operations.

“Criminal networks operate across borders and therefore require a unified, coordinated and intelligence-driven global response,” Marwa added.

The NDLEA chairman expressed confidence that the training would enhance operational capacity, enabling officers to disrupt trafficking networks and dismantle organised criminal cartels across the region.

He urged graduates to apply their new skills with integrity, professionalism and courage.

Marwa thanked the United States Department of Justice and DEA leadership for their partnership and investment in capacity building, noting that the graduation marked the start of renewed responsibility to uphold high service standards and protect vulnerable communities.

Officers from Nigeria, Ghana and Kenya participated in the intensive programme, acquiring advanced operational expertise designed to strengthen cross-border intelligence sharing and enforcement.

Marwa expressed optimism that continued cooperation between NDLEA and the Drug Enforcement Administration would deliver sustained successes in the fight against organised crime.
