Super Falcons to play Cameroon in two friendlies in Yaounde as they prepare to defend their WAFCON title in Morocco this March

Nigeria’s women’s national football team, the Super Falcons, will face Cameroon in two friendly matches in Yaounde as part of their preparations for this year’s Women Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

The first clash is scheduled for Saturday, 28th February, followed by a second encounter on Tuesday, 3rd March, within the FIFA Women’s International Window from 24th February to 7th March.

Both teams previously met in a friendly ahead of last year’s WAFCON, with the Super Falcons securing a 2-0 victory at the MKO Abiola Sports Complex in Abeokuta.

Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) General Secretary Dr Mohammed Sanusi, MON, said: “We have concluded everything that has to do with the two friendly matches, in conjunction with our counterpart body in Cameroon, FECAFOOT. Our commitment is to ensure the Super Falcons are well-prepared to retain their WAFCON title in Morocco and qualify for next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup finals in Brazil.”

FECAFOOT General Secretary Isaac Mandong added: “We are excited about the opportunity to host the Nigeria national team and to strengthen the ties between our two federations through this collaboration.”

The Confederation of African Football has confirmed the 13th Women Africa Cup of Nations will take place from 17th March to 3rd April in Morocco.

The top four semi-finalists will earn direct qualification to the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.

The Super Falcons enter the tournament as defending champions, having won their 10th WAFCON title last summer, defeating Tunisia, Botswana, Zambia, South Africa, and hosts Morocco along the way.
