The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) plans heavy sanctions against Kwara United following violent conduct by fans during a home match against Rivers United

Kwara United are set to face heavy sanctions from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) after violence erupted during their home game against Rivers United on Wednesday.

The unrest followed a late equaliser by Rivers United’s David Sholumade, which triggered home fans to attack match officials and block visiting players from leaving the stadium.

Rivers United’s General Manager, Okey Kpalukwu, was also assaulted in the incident.

The NPFL has a history of penalising clubs for supporter misconduct, including banning teams from playing at their home grounds. Such a sanction for Kwara United, who are currently fighting relegation, could further jeopardize their survival chances in the league.
