EFCC reaffirms commitment to female officers, launching welfare initiatives and promoting safety, leadership, and professional development on International Women’s Day

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday reaffirmed its commitment to supporting and empowering female officers as part of activities marking International Women’s Day 2026.

The Executive Chairman of the Commission, Ola Olukoyede, gave the assurance at a seminar held at the EFCC Headquarters, highlighting measures aimed at improving welfare, safety, and professional development for women in the agency.

“The commission remains committed to encouraging female officers and ensuring that their welfare needs are adequately addressed to enable them to effectively discharge their duties,” Mr Olukoyede said.

“Special attention is given to female officers to ensure they are emotionally and physically stable to carry out their responsibilities.”

Among the initiatives introduced, Mr Olukoyede noted the establishment of a crèche in EFCC offices to ease the burden of infant care for nursing mothers, alongside the activation of a strict Sexual Harassment and Bullying Policy to ensure a safe work environment.

“We will not relent in making the work environment more conducive and supportive for everyone. I encourage our female staff to continue upholding the value and standards that define the commission,” he added, urging officers to enhance productivity, self-development, and loyalty to the EFCC mandate.

In her remarks, Felicia Timothy, Acting Director of EFCC Staff Welfare Services, praised women for their roles as mothers, caregivers, innovators and decision-makers.

She commended Mr Olukoyede for appointing more women to leadership positions, further empowering female officers within the Commission.

“We thank the Chairman who has given women leadership positions beyond their expectations. Empowering a woman means empowering the nation,” Ms Timothy said, emphasizing unity, resilience, and shared experiences as keys to professional growth.

The seminar included three expert lectures addressing women’s health, work-life balance, and workplace support.

Medical psychiatrist Motunrayo Oyelohuno presented “Prioritizing Female Staff Health while Serving the Nation,” clinical psychologist Toyin Ogunkanmi delivered “Creating Balance in a High-Pressure World,” and Nana Khadijah Iya spoke on “Building a Culture of Support and Excellence at the Workplace.”

The event formed part of EFCC’s broader efforts to promote gender inclusion, staff well-being, and professional development for female officers across the Commission.
