Three passengers died and five were rescued after a bus plunged into Ariyo River in Oyo State due to reckless driving, authorities report

Three passengers died and five others were rescued after a bus carrying eight people lost control and plunged into the Ariyo River along Amuloko Road in Ona Ara local government area.

The bus, registered LEW 484 XA (Osun), reportedly veered off the road Wednesday afternoon, prompting an urgent response from the Oyo State Fire Service. Chairman of the service, Hon Maroof Akinwande, confirmed the incident.

“The five persons rescued alive have been rushed to Ona-Ara private hospital in the Jegede area for medical attention. The three bodies recovered were handed over to a team of policemen from Ogbere Divisional Headquarters led by ASP Aishat Ibrahim,” Akinwande stated.

Akinwande added that the crash involved a Suzuki bus and was caused by reckless driving. Officials from the OYRTMA Ona Ara division and Hon. Glorious Temitope, Chairman of Ona Ara Local Government, were present at the scene.

Emergency services continue to investigate the accident, underscoring ongoing concerns over road safety in the region.
