Wayne Rooney insists Michael Carrick should be Manchester United’s next permanent manager, praising his character and winning record

Wayne Rooney has called for Michael Carrick to be appointed as Manchester United’s next permanent manager.

Currently serving as caretaker manager, Carrick has overseen the team until the end of the season, with the Red Devils set to decide on a permanent replacement.

Rooney, who played alongside Carrick at Manchester United, believes he is the ideal candidate.

“100% Carrick should get the Man United job. I have said this. I knew this was going to happen with Michael Carrick. I know him very well. I know his character, his personality. He has the best winning percentage. For me, he has to get the job,” Rooney said following Man United’s 3-1 victory over Aston Villa.
