Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard says Newcastle United is his number two Premier League team, expressing support aside from the Reds

Steven Gerrard has revealed that Newcastle United is the one club he would love to see win the Premier League aside from Liverpool.

Speaking to TNT Sports during a tour of Anfield, Gerrard said: “Outside of Liverpool, if I wanted anyone to win the league, it would be Newcastle. They are my number two team in the Premier League. I have never, ever said that [before], but there you go. That is life for you.”

Newcastle currently sits ninth in the Premier League table with 42 points from 30 matches, trailing leaders Arsenal by 28 points.

The former England midfielder’s admission has sparked excitement among Newcastle fans, who see Gerrard’s comments as a sign of respect for their club’s progress under Eddie Howe.
