Nigerian troops successfully repel ISWAP attacks on multiple locations in Borno, inflicting heavy casualties and securing military positions

Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, successfully repelled coordinated terrorist attacks launched by ISWAP fighters on multiple military positions in Njimtilo, Baga, Buratai, and Damboa.

Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer of the task force, stated that the assaults, executed in the early hours of 16 March, were intended by the terrorists to overrun troop positions and gain propaganda leverage.

“At Ajiri Cross, ahead of Njimtilo, terrorists attempted to infiltrate positions mounted by troops of Sector 1 but were swiftly detected and decisively engaged,” Lt. Col. Uba said. The statement added that coordinated firepower and tactical manoeuvres disrupted the attackers and cut off withdrawal routes, forcing the terrorists into disorganised retreats.

Similar assaults at Baga, Buratai, and Damboa were met with determined resistance. Air support from the Nigerian Army Aviation and the Air Component enabled precision strikes that compounded the attackers’ losses.

Several terrorists were neutralised, including a key leader who spearheaded the Buratai assault, while many others sustained injuries during withdrawal.
