Oyo police rescue cocoa farmers from kidnappers at CRIN Ibadan; two victims freed, three suspects arrested, ongoing efforts to recover others

The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the kidnapping of cocoa farmers at the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria, Idi-Ayunre, Ibadan, on Wednesday, March 18, 2026.

In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the Command said representatives of the Cocoa Farmers Association of Nigeria, Ogun State Chapter, were abducted while submitting annual cocoa seedlings for the 2026 planting season.

“Information available to the Command indicates that the farmers were abducted by unidentified armed men,” the statement read.

Security operatives responded immediately. “Upon receipt of the distress report, a combined team comprising the Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), local vigilante groups, and Amotekun Corps swiftly mobilized and engaged the assailants in a coordinated pursuit,” it added.

The operation resulted in the rescue of two male victims and the arrest of three suspects, who are currently in police custody. Efforts continue to locate and rescue remaining victims.

“Intensive efforts are ongoing, with bush combing operations and sustained pursuit of fleeing criminals,” the Command stated, assuring the public of its commitment to safeguarding lives and property across Oyo State.

Residents were urged to remain calm, vigilant, and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information to aid ongoing operations.
