The African Union Maiduguri bombings condemnation was contained in a statement issued by spokesperson Nuur Mohamud Sheekh, following directives from Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Youssouf, who expressed solidarity with Nigeria and extended condolences to the families of victims while wishing the injured a swift recovery.

The Commission said it maintains an “unequivocal rejection” of terrorism in all its forms, stressing that such acts of violence undermine stability and disrupt communities already facing security challenges.

It also commended Nigerian authorities for ongoing counter-terrorism operations, while warning that the Maiduguri attack highlights the persistent and evolving threat posed by extremist groups in the region.

The AU further called for enhanced international cooperation, urging stronger humanitarian assistance, improved intelligence-sharing, and sustained investment aimed at addressing the root causes of violent extremism.
