Former Aston Villa forward Gabriel Agbonlahor has praised Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest for keeping Premier League pride alive in the Europa League.

Aston Villa defeated Lille OSC in the Round of 16 second-leg tie on Thursday to secure a place in the quarter-finals.

Nottingham Forest also advanced after overcoming FC Midtjylland via penalties.

Agbonlahor took to X to celebrate the achievement, writing: “Not at our best but through to next round! Notts Forest and Villa saving the Premier League.”

In the Europa League quarter-finals, Nottingham Forest will face FC Porto, while Aston Villa is set to clash with Bologna FC.
