Herculez Gomez says Messi needs help as Inter Miami exit CONCACAF Champions Cup highlights defensive fragility

Former Seattle Sounders forward Herculez Gomez has called on Inter Miami owner Jorge Mas to provide more support for captain Lionel Messi following the club’s elimination from the CONCACAF Champions Cup.

Inter Miami drew 1-1 with Nashville SC in the second leg of the Round of 16, but Nashville progressed on the away goal rule, ending Miami’s campaign in the tournament.

Gomez criticised the team’s defensive fragility, saying the defenders lack both stability and pace. He noted that Messi’s goal alone was insufficient to secure victory.

In a post on X, Gomez tweeted: “Inter Miami owner Jorge Mas wants Copa Libertadores… Focus on the CONCACAF Champions Cup first, another painful elimination. Messi needs help. This team still lacks legs and stability at the back.”
