Luis Figo Real Madrid trophy warning as the club icon warns of growing pressure if Madrid end the season without silverware

Real Madrid legend Luis Figo has raised concerns over the club’s ongoing season, warning that failing to win major silverware could deepen scrutiny on the Spanish giants as they risk finishing the campaign without a trophy.

Figo raises concern over Real Madrid’s trophy struggles comes after a season in which Carlo Ancelotti’s side have struggled to replicate their usual dominance, despite entering the campaign following Super Cup and FIFA Intercontinental Cup successes last year.

Real Madrid have already been eliminated from the Copa del Rey by Segunda División side Albacete in the Round of 16 and suffered a 3–2 defeat to Barcelona in the Supercopa de España final, adding to growing frustration among supporters.

Their UEFA Champions League campaign also ended in disappointment, with Bayern Munich knocking them out in the quarter-finals after a 6–4 aggregate defeat.

In LaLiga, Madrid currently trail leaders Barcelona by nine points with just seven matches remaining.

Speaking on the situation, Luis Figo stressed that while success in football is never guaranteed, the expectations at Real Madrid make any trophyless season particularly significant.

“People are always searching for someone to hold accountable, but I’m not privy to the dressing room dynamics,” Luis Figo said, as reported by Madrid Universal.

“Being among the elite teams globally, if titles are not won over two years, it raises concerns. That’s the nature of Madrid; they are accustomed to success.”

He added that while failure is part of football, the pressure at the Santiago Bernabéu is uniquely intense due to the club’s winning culture and global stature.

“Winning is not guaranteed in football; it would become quite tedious, and there are other prominent teams with significant ambitions,” he said.

“Yet, at Madrid, the scrutiny is always more intense. The players consistently strive for victory; losing is far more undesirable.”

As the season nears its conclusion, Real Madrid face an uphill battle to salvage domestic pride, with every remaining fixture crucial in determining whether they can avoid a rare trophyless campaign.
