Victor Osimhen has been criticised after a costly error in Galatasaray’s draw with Samsunspor, with a former player warning he must respect the club

Former Beşiktaş midfielder Sinan Engin, issued a strong warning to Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen following Galatasaray’s disappointing 4-1 defeat to Samsunspor, a result that delayed their title celebrations in the Turkish Super Lig.

The match, which could have sealed the league title with two games remaining, saw Galatasaray initially take the lead through Yunus Akgün before Samsunspor responded with goals from Marius Mouandilmadji and Cherif Ndiaye.

Tensions escalated in the second half when goalkeeper Günay Güvenç was sent off after handling the ball outside his area, an incident triggered by a misplaced backpass from Osimhen that left his teammate exposed.

The Osimhen Galatasaray warning debate intensified after the game, as Sinan Engin criticised the striker’s decision-making and on-field discipline, despite acknowledging his overall impact during the season.

Speaking on Beyaz Futbol, Engin said Osimhen must not act in a way that undermines the team, stressing that no individual player is bigger than the club.

He added that the striker’s recent behaviour and lapses in concentration were concerning, especially at such a critical stage of the title race.

Despite the criticism, Osimhen has maintained an impressive run of form, contributing goals or assists in his last eleven league appearances, underlining his importance to Galatasaray’s campaign.

However, the latest setback has raised concerns about discipline and focus within the squad as they approach the final stretch of the season with the championship still undecided.
