Dan’iya ADC governorship candidate announcement signals fresh political movement ahead of Sokoto 2027 election

Former Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, Manir Muhammad Dan’iya, has emerged as the governorship candidate to lead the new movement of the African Democratic Congress ahead of the 2027 election in the state.

Dan’iya, a close political ally and former deputy to ex-governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, confirmed the development in a statement issued through his former Press Secretary, Aminu Abubakar, in the early hours of Friday.

The former deputy governor, who also holds the traditional title of Walin Sokoto, thanked party leaders, stakeholders and supporters for the confidence reposed in him.

Dan’iya ADC governorship candidate emergence comes amid growing political consultations and alignments ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Sokoto State.

Describing the development as a major responsibility, Dan’iya pledged to work towards unity, stability and development across the state.

He also commended Tambuwal for his continued guidance, political support and commitment to the growth of Sokoto State.

“I sincerely appreciate His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, alongside all stakeholders, political associates, elders, youths, women and supporters for the confidence reposed in me,” Dan’iya stated.

“This support is a responsibility I deeply value, and together, we shall continue to work for the unity, stability and development of Sokoto State,” he added.

According to him, the ADC movement represents a fresh drive for inclusive leadership, good governance and people-oriented policies ahead of the next governorship contest.

Dan’iya further urged members and supporters of the movement to remain peaceful, focused and united as preparations intensify for the 2027 general elections.

Political observers in the state noted that no fewer than 10 aspirants had initially shown interest in contesting for the governorship ticket within the movement, including former Ambassador to Jordan, Faruk Malami Yabo.

The latest development is expected to reshape political calculations in Sokoto as parties and influential figures begin positioning for the next electoral cycle.
