Asisat Oshoala urges fans to support the Super Falcons as Nigeria prepare to defend their WAFCON title in Morocco this summer

Six-time African Women’s Footballer of the Year Asisat Oshoala has called on fans to rally behind the Super Falcons as the team prepares to defend their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title in Morocco, scheduled for July 26 to August 16.

Oshoala made the appeal following Nigeria’s impressive double-header friendly victories over Senegal at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, where she played a decisive role across both matches.

The forward opened the scoring from the penalty spot in a 2-1 win in the first leg before adding another goal in a 3-0 victory in the return fixture, helping the nine-time African champions secure a dominant 5-1 aggregate result.

Speaking after the second match, Oshoala expressed appreciation for fan support while urging continued backing for both the Super Falcons and the Super Eagles as they prepare for major international competitions.

“Scoring goals always feels good. The fans should keep supporting the leagues, the Super Falcons and the Super Eagles. Thank you for the support so far,” she said.

The 31-year-old forward is set to feature in her sixth WAFCON tournament, having already enjoyed remarkable success in the competition.

She has won four of the five editions she has participated in, lifting titles in 2014, 2016 and 2018, before helping Nigeria secure a record-extending continental crown in 2024.

As preparations intensify, expectations remain high that the Super Falcons will once again mount a strong challenge for the African title in Morocco.
