Portugal starting XI under Martinez remarks came after Portugal secured a 2-1 victory over Nigeria on Wednesday in their final warm-up match before their tournament opener against the Democratic Republic of Congo on June 17.

Cristiano Ronaldo led the line alongside Francisco Trincao and Pedro Neto in a strong attacking setup, with Neto opening the scoring midway through the first half at the Estádio Municipal de Leiria.

Nigeria responded before the break through Akor Adams, who restored parity in the 37th minute, but Portugal ultimately claimed victory thanks to a second-half winner from substitute Francisco Conceicao in the 74th minute.

Despite the win, Martinez used his post-match comments to underline the competitive nature of his squad selection, insisting that no player is guaranteed a starting role.

“I keep emphasizing that I am very selective. There is no fixed starting XI,” Martinez said, stressing that form and tactical needs will guide his decisions.

Martinez Portugal Starting XI approach reflects what the coach described as a flexible system built around a 26-man squad capable of adapting to different opponents and match situations.

Martinez added that the coaching staff will continue evaluating players in training and matches before finalising their strategy for the World Cup opener.
