Argentina star openly states he wants to fulfil his dream after speaking with the club

Argentina striker Julian Alvarez has confirmed he wants to leave Atletico Madrid, bringing clarity to intense speculation surrounding his future.

The 26-year-old forward made the revelation on Tuesday, 23 June 2026, while speaking to ESPN shortly after Argentina’s 2-0 victory over Austria at the ongoing World Cup.

“I don’t want to hide or act like I don’t want to be clear. I try to be honest,” Alvarez said. “I spoke to Atlético people and I think the best for everyone involved is for me to leave. I want to fulfill my dream.”

The honest admission comes amid strong interest from several top European clubs, including Arsenal, Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Atletico Madrid are understood to have already turned down a substantial €150 million offer from Real Madrid for the player.

Alvarez joined Atletico Madrid from Manchester City in 2024 and has since established himself as a key figure for Diego Simeone’s side.

However, his desire for regular first-team football and a new challenge appears to have driven his decision to seek an exit.

His comments are likely to accelerate transfer talks in the coming weeks, with the player determined to take the next step in a career that has already seen him win major honours with both club and country, including the 2022 World Cup with Argentina.
