Brentford have extended Michael Kayode’s contract until 2032 after the defender impressed in his breakthrough Premier League season

Brentford have secured the long-term future of highly rated defender Michael Kayode, with the club confirming a new contract that will keep the Italy Under-21 international at the Premier League side until the summer of 2032.

The announcement was made on Friday via the club’s official website, with Brentford also holding an option to extend the deal by a further year, underlining their commitment to one of their most promising young players.

Kayode, 21, initially joined Brentford from Fiorentina on loan in January 2025 before completing a permanent move shortly after. Since arriving in England, he has quickly established himself as an important part of the squad.

The energetic full-back has already made 56 appearances across all competitions, playing a key role in Brentford’s solid 2025/26 campaign, which ended with a ninth-place finish in the Premier League. His performances also earned him a nomination for the Premier League Young Player of the Season award.

Brentford head coach Keith Andrews praised the defender’s development and attitude, describing his growth as one of the standout success stories within the squad.

“Michael had an amazing season last year. He epitomised everything good that we do. His development and evolution has been really, really impressive,” Andrews said.

“He’s someone that we love working with every single day, who comes in with such an enthusiastic demeanour, and is a joy to be around and to coach. We’re absolutely delighted that he wants to stay because we love having him here, and this new contract is absolutely deserved.”

Kayode began his career in Italy, coming through the ranks before featuring for Serie D side Gozzano and later joining Fiorentina. He made his Serie A debut in 2023 and gained valuable experience with the Viola, including appearances during their run to the UEFA Europa Conference League final in 2024.

Since moving to West London, the defender has continued his rapid rise. He scored his first goal for Brentford with a header against Wolves and has contributed consistently in both league and cup competitions.

Known for his pace, defensive strength and attacking runs from full-back, Kayode is widely regarded as one of Europe’s brightest young right-backs. His long throw-ins have also become a notable weapon in Brentford’s set-piece arsenal.

The contract extension has sparked reactions among supporters and football fans online, with many viewing it as a strong statement of intent from Brentford as they look to build around emerging talent rather than lose key players to bigger clubs.
