APC governorship candidate Solomon Adeola says he will incorporate Olusegun Obasanjo’s advice into his plans after consulting the former President and ex-Governor Ibikunle Amosun in Abeokuta

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 Ogun State governorship election, Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, on Friday visited former President Olusegun Obasanjo and former Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun in Abeokuta to seek their guidance, blessings and support ahead of the election.

The meetings, held at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library and later with Amosun, formed part of Adeola’s ongoing consultations with influential political leaders as preparations for the 2027 governorship race gather momentum.

Speaking with journalists after meeting Obasanjo, the senator representing Ogun West Senatorial District described the visit as productive, saying the former President offered valuable advice on governance and the future development of Ogun State.

“I am here to pay homage to our father, the father of the nation, a former President and a respected national leader. As you can see, we received a very warm reception.

“We came to seek his support, his blessings and his guidance, and he graciously gave us all three,” Adeola said.

According to the APC candidate, Obasanjo shared his expectations for Ogun State and outlined priorities he believes should guide the next administration.

“In his remarks, he made his views loud and clear. He spoke passionately about the future of the state, his expectations and what he believes we must do to keep the state on the right track.

“We have listened carefully, taken his advice to heart, and we will incorporate it into our plans and programmes as we move toward 2027.

“It has been a very successful visit, and I sincerely thank the former President for the warm reception he extended to me and my deputy,” he added.

Responding, Obasanjo urged Adeola to remain focused on his political ambition while seeking divine guidance throughout his journey.

“My prayer is that your desires and your ambitions will be in alignment with what God has planned for you,” the former President said.

Drawing from his personal experience, Obasanjo recounted how his early ambition of becoming a geologist gave way to a military career, which he described as God’s purpose for his life.

“I wanted to study geology and become a great geologist, but that was not God’s plan for me. God’s plan was for me to make progress through the military, and He helped me every step of the way.

“I pray that God’s purpose for your life will also be fulfilled.

“Be focused on what you want to do and what you want to achieve. If anyone has a goal or an aspiration, let them pursue it with determination and leave the rest to God and to our people,” he said.

Adeola later visited former Governor Ibikunle Amosun, whom he described as his political leader, saying the meeting was aimed at strengthening unity and consultations within the APC.

“I am here to call on my leader and also seek his understanding and support, which he has graciously granted.

“I will still return for another scheduled visit when he will be ready to address the press. But today’s meeting has been wonderful. As you can see, everyone is happy, the turnout was impressive and we are all speaking with one voice. It is victory for our party in 2027,” Adeola said.

In his remarks, Amosun emphasised the importance of party cohesion, urging APC members to work together in pursuit of good governance rather than create divisions.

“What people are looking for is good governance. We are one family, and there is no need to form separate groups,” Amosun said.

He also thanked party members and supporters who accompanied Adeola on the visit and called for sustained cooperation ahead of the election.

“It is a great joy that you have all come. We appreciate your presence, and we ask for your continued support and cooperation.

“This visit is not about seeking support because the support is already there. We are ready to move forward. When the time comes, we will put everything together, review it carefully and proceed accordingly,” he added.

The consultations come as political activities begin to intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
