Liverpool injury update: Jeremy Jacquet is fit to face Manchester City, but Cody Gakpo and Alexander Isak are doubts for the Anfield clash

Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola has confirmed that Jeremy Jacquet is available for the Premier League clash against Manchester City at Anfield this weekend, while Cody Gakpo and Alexander Isak are doubtful for the fixture.

The three players returned early from international duty with their respective countries, but their fitness situations differ ahead of the crucial league encounter.

Jacquet has recovered from a tweaked hamstring and has returned to training, leaving him in contention for the match. Gakpo, who is struggling with an ankle problem, and Isak, who has a thigh injury, have yet to resume training.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Iraola said Jacquet had trained on Thursday and was expected to be available for selection.

“Jeremy has trained yesterday ThursdayThursday and he is good to go and I expect him to be available,” the Liverpool boss said.

However, the manager was less optimistic about the chances of Gakpo and Isak featuring against City, despite the time remaining before kick-off.

“Cody and Alex have not trained yesterday. We still have a couple of days, but I think it is going to be tough,” he added.

The potential absence of both attacking players would be a setback for Liverpool as they prepare to face one of their major Premier League rivals.

Gakpo’s ankle injury and Isak’s thigh problem will therefore remain key concerns for the club’s medical staff as they assess whether either forward can recover in time.

With Jacquet available but the other two players facing late fitness tests, Liverpool will hope to have as many options as possible for the Anfield encounter.

The final decision on Gakpo and Isak is likely to depend on their recovery and whether they can return to training before the match.
