The highly anticipated heavyweight showdown between Tyson Fury and British-Nigerian boxer Anthony Joshua is projected to generate $34 million (£26 million) in ticket sales, potentially setting a new record for the biggest gate in British boxing history.
The two heavyweight rivals are scheduled to meet on December 11, 2026, at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales, in a contest reportedly worth close to £150 million to both fighters.
The bout represents the culmination of a rivalry that has lasted more than a decade, with fans eager to see the former heavyweight champions finally face each other in the ring.
According to a report by Punch, approximately 80,000 tickets were sold within about an hour of going on sale, while more than 500,000 people reportedly joined the online queue.
Ticket prices ranged from £80 to £13,000 for premium seats, reflecting the enormous interest surrounding the fight.
Dana White, who is involved in the event in a personal capacity alongside Saudi boxing powerbroker Turki Alalshikh rather than as an official promoter, disclosed the projected ticket revenue in an interview with Sky Sports.
White said the event had been structured to generate approximately $34 million at the gate, adding that fewer than 700 tickets remained at the time of his comments.
“You can consider this thing a sellout already. We have this thing scaled for around $34 million,” White said.
If achieved, the projected revenue would surpass the previous leading British boxing gates, which also feature fights involving Fury and Joshua.
Joshua’s September 2024 contest against Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium generated approximately £14 million in ticket revenue. Fury’s victory over Dillian Whyte at the same venue in April 2022 reportedly brought in about £12 million.
The projected figure would therefore represent a substantial increase on the previous British records.
Despite the anticipated milestone, the Cardiff showdown is not expected to surpass the biggest ticket revenues generated by boxing events worldwide.
Floyd Mayweather’s 2015 fight against Manny Pacquiao remains the leading contest, with gate receipts exceeding $70 million.
Mayweather’s 2017 crossover bout against mixed martial arts star Conor McGregor follows with approximately $55 million, while Canelo Alvarez’s fight against Terence Crawford in Las Vegas generated around $47 million, according to the report.
The projected $34 million for Fury versus Joshua would place the Cardiff contest below those figures but establish a new benchmark for British boxing if the final revenue reaches the estimate.
Beyond the live audience at the Principality Stadium, millions of viewers are expected to watch the fight through Netflix.
The combination of the fighters’ long-standing rivalry, premium ticket prices and international broadcast reach is expected to make the contest one of the most commercially significant boxing events staged in Britain.
For Joshua, who has Nigerian heritage, and Fury, the bout offers a chance to settle one of British boxing’s most talked-about rivalries while potentially setting a new financial milestone for the sport.
The projected ticket revenue, however, remains an estimate until final gate figures are confirmed.
