Experienced Nigerian football tactician Abdu Maikaba is set to be appointed as the new head coach of the Nigeria national under-20 football team, according to sources within the country’s football circles.

Abdu Maikaba takes charge of Nigeria’s Flying Eagles coach appointment is expected to see him replace Aliyu Zubairu, who recently departed the role following his move to Egyptian second division side Telecom SC.

Zubairu had guided the Flying Eagles to the second round of the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile last year before taking up his new assignment abroad.

Maikaba, widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most experienced domestic coaches, previously served as an assistant coach to Paul Aigbogun within the Flying Eagles set-up, giving him prior familiarity with the national youth structure.

His most recent role was as head coach of Nigeria Premier Football League side Wikki Tourists, where he continued to build on a long managerial career in the domestic league.

Over the years, Maikaba has also managed several top Nigerian clubs, including Kano Pillars, Rangers International, and Akwa United, earning a reputation for disciplined tactical organisation and youth development.

Football analysts say his anticipated return to the national youth team could bring stability and continuity as the Flying Eagles prepare for upcoming international competitions.
