ADC suspends Wuse Ward officials in Abuja after controversial attempt to suspend Senator Ireti Kingibe, citing violations of party constitution and procedures

The Federal Capital Territory chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has suspended three executive members from Wuse Ward in Abuja Municipal Area Council for allegedly orchestrating the controversial suspension of Senator Ireti Kingibe.

The suspended members include the ward Chairman, Kanayo Chukwu, as well as Amanda Pam and Omale Suleiman. Senator Ireti Kingibe currently represents the FCT in the National Assembly.

Addressing journalists and party members at the ADC FCT secretariat in Abuja, Emmanuel Destiny, a member of the party’s National Working Committee, said the purported suspension was unconstitutional and lacked due process.

“The party is supreme to every individual. Until now, the national wing of the party has not been served any letter of complaint or petition against Sen. Kingibe.

You cannot wake up and suspend a serving senator without putting your complaints or petition in writing,” Emmanuel Destiny said.

He added that the national leadership would not tolerate misconduct by ward officials and vowed that disciplinary action would be taken against them.

Also commenting on the matter, the party’s Deputy National Auditor, Princess Nneka Nneboh, said the leadership could no longer remain silent after giving those involved ample opportunity to follow proper procedures.

“It is of no use keeping quiet because we asked them to do the right thing and follow the proper channel. Whatever decision we take here today stands, and as a national officer, I want to say it is time to call a spade a spade. Enough is enough,” she said.

The FCT Secretary of the party, John Hyginus, also criticised administrative lapses and breaches of the party constitution by the ward officials.

“We are here to address the administrative incompetence of the state chairman and the gross breach of the party’s constitution as well as several anti-party activities he has committed.

Today, the ward and area council chairmen have passed a vote of no confidence in the three initiators of Sen. Kingibe’s suspension,” John Hyginus stated.

The controversy arose earlier in the week when Wuse Ward officials announced Kingibe’s suspension over alleged anti-party activities, insubordination, and failure to campaign for the party during recent area council elections.

The national leadership of ADC, however, distanced itself from the suspension. The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, urged the public and media to disregard the report, describing it as false and misleading.

The motion to suspend the three ward executives was moved by Wuse Ward chieftain Danlami Zuru and seconded by exco member Samuel Dimgba.

In a letter reportedly sent to the National Working Committee, ward publicity secretary Samuel Nwigbo raised concerns about how the party could approach a major election with a candidate who refused to campaign openly for ADC.

The FCT leadership’s decision underscores the party’s commitment to enforcing due process and maintaining discipline within its ranks.
