Adeleke supports 3,000 NYSC members as Osun welcomes new corps members with promises of welfare, safety and better service conditions

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, on Friday, August 7, 2026, pledged continued government support for 3,000 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members deployed to the state as they began their 2026 Batch B Stream II orientation programme at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Ede, Osun State.

Adeleke assured the newly inducted corps members that his administration would continue working with the NYSC to provide better welfare and security throughout their service year.

“My government will continue to support the NYSC Scheme in the state in ensuring your welfare and safety during the service year,” the governor said in an address delivered by the Commissioner for Youth Affairs and Chairman of the NYSC Osun State Governing Board, Olagunju Moshood Olalekan.

The governor commended the NYSC leadership for its contribution to national unity and development, describing the scheme as an important platform for promoting peace, education, healthcare, agriculture and community development.

Adeleke praised the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, as well as the Osun State Coordinator, Ekeng Ita Kubiangha, and other officials for their commitment to preparing young Nigerians for national service.

He urged the corps members to approach the service year with discipline, responsibility and respect for the laws of the country.

The governor reminded the participants that their deployment represented an opportunity to contribute positively to communities outside their states of origin while building relationships across cultural and regional boundaries.

“I urge you therefore, to stay true to the National Pledge and Oath of Allegiance you swore to before witnesses today. Never take laws into your hands but always channel your grievances in a civilised and constitutionally acceptable way,” Adeleke said.

He also encouraged the corps members to embrace diversity, build friendships and respect the traditions of the communities where they would serve.

The new participants took the NYSC Oath of Allegiance administered by Osun State Chief Judge, Justice Oyebola Adepele Ojo, at about 10:50 am during the opening ceremony.

Speaking at the event, NYSC Osun State Coordinator Ekeng Ita Kubiangha congratulated the corps members on their successful mobilisation, describing the service year as an opportunity for personal growth, professional development and national contribution.

Kubiangha encouraged the participants to demonstrate patriotism, humility and commitment throughout their service.

“Your mobilisation has not been by accident, but your discipline, diligence and resilience coupled with divine backing ensured your success,” he said.

He explained that the NYSC programme was established to promote national integration by deploying graduates to states and communities different from their places of origin.

According to him, the scheme’s objectives are achieved through four major stages: the orientation course, primary assignment, community development service and the winding-up programme.

The coordinator noted that the three-week orientation exercise was designed to prepare corps members for the challenges and responsibilities ahead during their service year.

He also urged participants to distinguish themselves through hard work and dedication, noting that the scheme recognises outstanding performances through various awards, including the State Coordinator’s Commendation, Chairman’s Award, State Honours Award and Presidential Award.

The induction of the new corps members comes as the NYSC continues its role as one of Nigeria’s key youth development programmes, promoting national unity and encouraging young graduates to contribute to community growth across the country.
