AFC financial report revenue shows $292.7m earnings with strong growth, while projecting future deficits in its 2027–28 budget cycle

The Asian Football Confederation Asian Football Confederation on Monday reported total revenue of $292.7 million for its latest financial year, surpassing its budget projection of $259.9 million, as members approved the figures at its 36th Annual Congress in Vancouver, Canada.

The announcement came ahead of the FIFA Congress, with broadcast and sponsorship continuing to dominate income streams, contributing $215 million.

Additional revenue was generated through host nation grants and other financial returns, reflecting steady commercial growth across Asian football.

Despite the strong earnings, the AFC invested $315 million back into football development across the continent, marking a 4.1 per cent increase from the previous year.

A significant portion of the expenditure supported competitions, development programmes, and funding initiatives distributed to member associations and regional bodies aimed at strengthening football infrastructure and participation.

Looking ahead, the AFC outlined its 2027–28 budget cycle, projecting rising revenue driven by competition growth, including the 2027 Asian Cup in Saudi Arabia.

However, the outlook also includes a planned strategic deficit in 2027 before returning to a small surplus in 2028, as the organisation increases spending on reforms, women’s competitions, education, digital systems and staffing.

Major expenditure areas include competition reforms, development funding, and administrative costs, alongside increased investment in technology and staff retention to support long-term growth.

Despite short-term deficits, AFC officials say the financial model remains sustainable, with a projected cash balance of $121 million ensuring operational stability.
