Anambra Mother Killed Son Arrested: 49-year-old man arrested for murdering his 68-year-old mother with an axe over cassava business dispute. He also attempted suicide

Nnamdi Anyaji, a 49-year-old man, has been arrested by the Anambra State Police Command for the murder of his 68-year-old mother, Mrs. Dorathy Anyaji.

The tragic incident, which also involved an attempted suicide by the suspect, occurred in Amudo Village, Ekwulobia, at approximately 1:40 PM on Friday.

Responding to a distress call, officers from the Ekwulobia Divisional Police Station arrived at the scene, apprehended the suspect, and recovered the axe believed to be the murder weapon.

SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Anambra State Police media officer, confirmed the arrest and the details of the incident on Sunday.

According to preliminary investigations, the murder was the result of a heated dispute between Nnamdi Anyaji and his mother over the proceeds from a cassava business.

The suspect accused his mother of dishonesty regarding the financial transactions. “Operatives recovered one axe at the scene. Preliminary investigations reveal that the incident stemmed from a dispute over money made from a cassava business. The suspect had accused his mother of dishonesty,” Ikenga stated.

The suspect is currently in police custody and is being closely monitored to prevent any further attempts at suicide. Ikenga also confirmed that Nnamdi Anyaji will be charged to court upon the completion of the ongoing investigation.

The Anambra State Police Command is treating the case with utmost seriousness, and further details will be released as the investigation progresses.
